MAKING THE CASE FOR
GOOD VISION
Raising awareness about the importance of vision correction and protection to make good vision a global priority
BIG NEWS!

The Vision Impact Institute has joined the OneSight EssilorLuxottica Foundation. Our name may have changed, but our work to make good vision a global priority continues.
WHY WE ADVOCATE
The Vision Impact Institute (VII) is making the case for good vision globally. Since 2013, we have been raising awareness and advocating for change — powered by our online database of nearly 700 evidence-based reports and studies that form the foundation of our work.
Partnerships with thought leaders, health policymakers, academic institutions, media and other industry leaders help us advocate to connect the impact good vision has on children’s education, gender equity, road safety, myopia, and much more.
Poor vision – the world’s most widespread unaddressed disability – has an impact on the quality of life of people everywhere. Today, this impact is even more pronounced as we adapt to changing global priorities and circumstances.
Here’s why we advocate for good vision:
-
In the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, children’s vision and education have been impacted by closed schools and virtual learning that leads to increased screen time. Moreover, the COVID-19 outbreak period aggravated the risk of myopia onset and progression in children.
-
In some parts of the world, girls and women face cultural stigmas in families, schools and places of employment that prevent them from wearing eyeglasses.
-
Inadequate vision requirements for drivers create preventable road hazards.
-
Research projects that nearsightedness will affect 50% of the world by 2050.
-
The annual global productivity loss from vision impairment is approximately US$411 billion purchasing power parity.
